I love the Tank, its such a great space, the reverb in there lasts around 24 seconds, Its an inspiration to step inside, You cant talk – words turn into sonic mush… everything audible is amplified beyond belief, you have to LISTEN and thats no bad thing….
The Inner Ear are based there (Thats me and Bjornola Lind and Mikael Oberg) we are a performance collective and together we now own and run the Tank – our intention is to take her to the world. We have been active here at least annually since 2007.
We think of her as the mother Tank… Its a little like the temascal, like stepping back into the womb, The 11 spoked ceiling has a non symmetry that never tires, and although she once stood in a busy timber yard she now sits alone and quiet in the woods on a secluded island on the majestic Ängermanälven river.
That was the Tank then – ours is the smaller one to the left.
and this is the Tank now….
Here is an info film about the Tank that we made in 2020 whilst working on the Still Listening project with Tina Quartey
WHAT NEXT ?
We have plans for the Tank and slowly they start to come to life – we intend to put the Tank online – we intend to connect via internet to the rest of the arts community, We intend to stream more performances and put the Tank online as a plug in type app to use anywhere live and in realtime, and it would be nice to host residencies here to see what others make of this incredible space 🙂
Väki
September 2024 we made our first streaming project, live and ambisonic and with a video feed all the way from the Tank to the SIML (the sonic immersion media lab) at Goldsmiths University in London, this event entitled Väki was made in collaboration with Atau Tanaka of Goldsmiths and the Iklectik Arts Lab, London. It worked well though the northern lights seemed to cause cause glitches to the internet feed – we need fibre ! and plans are afoot ! The northern lights were awful pretty though !!
Previously ?
We (the Inner Ear) have made so many performances and projects at The Tank that to list all of them here would be a bit of a chore – as would reading through them all – so below are a selection of pictures – more information is available on request…
