Tai Chi is both a martial art and form of Qi Gong.
Qi Gong – Qi is energy and Gong is work (or skill, or methodology, or all of three), but work is a common translation of the pictogram Gong.
In traditional Chinese thought all is energy (like modern physics really), and by using the mind, the body, and the breath, it is possible to perceive, manipulate, move and play with energy.
Qi (energy) pervades the mind, hence the mind can be changed/manipulated via Qi Gong practice, the body/physicality can be similarly interacted with.
We (humans) are a ‘small’ energy system existing inside of a far larger energy system and we can connect with and interact with all manner of energy systems (from the micro to the macro cosmic), all is connected (the physics term ‘unified field’ comes to mind in this context as do fractal images).
Qi Gong underpins Lee’s creative practice and he has taught Qi Gong on and off for many years. He currently teaches a class for well being and health at 8.30 am (UK time) each Wednesday and a primordial Qi Gong class at 11.30 a.m. also on Wednesdays. Primordial Qi Gong can be used for health maintinance but is also a great system to use in all manner of creative ways and this 11.30 class is specifically aimed at creatives – Qi Gong for inspiration.
These classes are both in person and online, and are run on a donation basis – it would be a shame if financial constraint stopped someone learning, all are welcome to attend – please email or call/message to join/receive Zoom link.
Lee has worked with many teachers and different systems of energy perception/manipulation since the late 1980’s. He has studied and practiced Tai Chi and Qi Gong constantly for the last 20years and the bedrock of his Tai Chi and Qi Gong knowledge was taught to him by his ShiFu the Shaolin monk Shi Xing Fa.
Details of Shi Xing Fa’s teachings follow :-
